Coal-to-olefins Project Starts Construction in Anhui

Recently, construction of the methanol synthesis and sulfur recovery units of a 1.7 million t/a coal-to-methanol-to-olefins project officially started. This project was undertaken by Zhong’an Union Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., a firm in which Wanbei Coal-electricity and Sinopec hold equal shares.
The methanol synthesis and sulfur recovery units are to be constructed by Nanjing Engineering Company, which is an important player in the entire coal chemical project. The capacity of the methanol synthesis unit is 1.8 million t/a, while the capacity of the sulfur recovery unit is 20 000 t/a. They are planned to be functionally complete for an intermediate hand-over on October 30, 2018.
The overall goal is to complete the 1.7 million t/a coal-to-methanol-to-olefins plant by the end of 2018, and the whole process is to be finished by June 2019.
The Zhong’an Union Coal Chemical Integration Project is a key development project of Sinopec and Anhui province. Zhong’an Union Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. was funded 50-50 by China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation and Anhui Wanbei Coal-electricity Group Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of RMB4 billion, and was established on December 18, 2010.
