China Assigns Works to Control Emission of Greenhouse Gases

China recently allocated responsibility for specific tasks to government departments, for better implementation of the 13th Five-Year Plan to Control Emission of Greenhouse Gases (2016-2020).
The plan calls for controlling annual coal consumption at around 4.2 billion tons by 2020. After 2017, coal use is to be cut continually in places suffering from severe haze.
Further, the plan calls for reducing energy consumption per unit of GDP by 15% from 2015’s level, while expanding non-fossil energy sources to 15% of the nation’s total energy consumption, which is to stay below 5 billion tons of standard coal, all by 2020.
