Qinghai Mining Gets EIA Approval for 600 000 T/A CTO Project

The Ministry of Environmental Protection of China recently approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for a 600 000 t/a coal to olefin (CTO) project of Qinghai Mining Industry Group Co., Ltd. (Qinghai Mining).
Using local coal as raw materials, the CTO project is to produce 260 000 t/a of ethylene and 415 400 t/a of polypropylene, adopting coal gasification, methanol synthesis and methanol to olefin technologies.
In addition, Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Group Co., Ltd. constructed a metal magnesium integration project, and project byproducts include nearly 1.7 million tons of chlorine. The CTO project is to strengthen comprehensive utilization of salt lake resources via supporting the metal magnesium project (ethylene from the CTO project will be used to produce polyvinyl chloride with chlorine from the metal magnesium project).
