Dow Helps Save and Reuse Water Resources

Population growth and rapid industrialization are making reverse osmosis (RO) technology a mission critical component in meeting the potable and non-potable water needs of emerging economies like China. China's capital Beijing has a long history of water scarcity. To meet the need for more water, Beijing currently treats 92% of its wastewater for a reuse rate of 60%.
   In Beijing Capital Airport, a dedicated wastewater treatment facility utilizes Dow's FILMTEC TM FR membranes to purify and re-use approximately 10 000 m3/day of water for irrigating its green belt, cleaning and supporting infrastructure like bathroom plumbing. And in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), a model for sustainable industrial growth with an emphasis on green solutions, FILMTEC TM FR membranes are enabling wastewater reclamation of 20 000 m3/day for electronic, pharmaceutical and other industrial process uses. Furthermore, at the BeiXiaoHe Wastewater Treatment Plant, FILMTEC TM FR membranes enable reclamation and re-use of 10 000 m3/day of water to fill the fountains and pools and irrigate the landscapes in the Olympic Park.
   Water quality control is essential to the successful operation of nuclear power stations. DOWEX TM resins work to provide a more complete and effective regeneration, reducing resin cross-regeneration in order to boost the system's cost -benefit performance. Presently, DOWTEX TM resins have been successfully installed in the Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plant (phase II), a critical source for power supply in southern China.
   In addition, Datang Wangtan Power Station uses DOW FILMTEC TM RO seawater desalination system that is the first "double membrane (ultrafiltration + RO)" desalination project put into operation in China.
