BASF Joint Trade Union Established in China

By Tanya Tian
On November 9th, A BASF joint trade union has been established in China, combining several existing BASF trade unions into a single entity. Highly supported by the Shanghai Pudong New District Trade Union, the innovative approach to its formation makes BASF a pioneer among multinational companies.
In its first stage, the joint trade union includes individual unions from five BASF wholly-owned companies in Shanghai and their branches in Beijing and Guangzhou. More companies will be included in future when they are ready to join and their local supervising trade unions agree.
According to Johnny Kwan, Chairman of BASF Greater China Country Board, compared with individual unions, a joint trade union harmonizes the benefits of BASF employees in mainland China. It's part of its corporate social responsibility to ensure its employees' rights and benefits.
