CNCCD Indemnifies Over US$65 Million

On December 5th, 2007 Beijing High People's Court ruled that China National Chemical Construction Dalian Company (CNCC) is the main party held responsible for cargo transportation accident. CNCCD was ordered to indemnify over US$65.0 million to 5 overseas insurance companies and at the same time other claims lodged by Malaysia Airlines were rejected.
On March 15th, 2000 CNCCD transported a group of strongly corrosive chemical products through Malaysia Airlines, causing corrosion and disuse of the whole airplane. Malaysia Airlines and 5 overseas insurance companies appealed to Beijing High People's Court against 6 related companies including CNCCD and Kerry EAS Logistics Ltd.
As quite a few overseas companies were involved in the case and most evidences have to be obtained abroad, a lot of time has been spent. The collection and examination of evidences alone has taken three years.
It is still uncertain whether the plaintiff and the defendant will lodge further appeals.
