Cabot Expands Carbon Black Facility in Tianjin

Recently, Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) started to expand its
carbon black facility in the Tianjin Economic Technical
Development Area (TEDA). Cabot Chemical (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., a
joint venture of Cabot corporation and Shanghai Coking Chemical
Co., Ltd., will invest approximately US$65 million to construct
two additional carbon blacks units, increasing the capacity of
the plant to approximately 250 000 t/a. The existing carbon
blacks units at the facility are operating at full capacity and
the expansion will allow Cabot to support the growing demand in
the China market.
    It is said that scheduled to be completed in 15 months, this
project includes the most advanced waste energy recovery and
environmental protection technologies. After completion,
carbon black capacity in the Tianjin Plant will be increased to
260 000 t/a - 290 000 t/a.
    Cabot Corporation is a global specialty chemicals and
materials company. Cabot's major products are carbon black,
fumed silica, inkjet colorants, etc. Shanghai Coking Chemical
Co., Ltd. is one of the largest manufacturers of coke and
methanol in China.
