3M Establishes Specialty Material Plant in Shanghai

3M recently announced it began phase I construction of its newest
specialty material plant in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.
With phase I investment of US$ 28 million, the specialty material
plant will be the company's sixth manufacturing base in Shanghai
and the eighth in mainland China.
The new specialty material plant covers an area of 175 000
square meters, of which 50 000 square meters will be completed
in phase I in June of 2008. The contract for phase II of the
project, which covers 125 000 square meters, has just been signed
recently. 3M will take advantage of its multi-hi-tech platforms
such as adhesive and coating technologies to produce
intermediate products like adhesive & resins, which will be
primarily used in products for medical, households, automotive
& building construction markets as well as graphic signs for
advertisements and road signs. The new specialty material plant
will supply to its other manufacturing bases in Xinqiao,
Caohejing, Pujiang and elsewhere throughout China, thus laying
the foundation for 3M's planned production capacity expansion
in the country. The specialty material plant is expected to set
up more than ten production lines to cover multiple markets, and
increase production capability to meet market need for local
market and abroad.
Once the construction of its new specialty material plant in
Shanghai is completed, 3M will run eight manufacturing bases in
China, and with the exception of its South China base that covers
the South China and Hong Kong markets, the other seven are all
located in the Yangtze River Delta.
