Jiangsu Launches Polycrystalline Silicon

On June 27th Jiangsu Daquan Group launched a polycrystalline
silicon base project in Wanzhou Salt Chemical Industry Park
located in Chongqing. The project has a total investment of
RMB4.0 billion and is expected to start up in 2008. Its capacity
can reach 3 000 t/a in the same year. The final output will be
6 000 tons and the output value will be RMB10 billion a year.
Jiangsu Daquan Group is one of the top ten electric companies
in China. It has acquired an area of over 30 hectares to construct
the polycrystalline silicon base.
Polycrystalline silicon is an important raw material for
solar energy cells, semiconductors and liquid crystal displays.
The demand for polycrystalline silicon in China is basically
satisfied by imports. China has great quantities of silicone
ores, but has no technology to convert silicon ores into
polycrystalline silicon with extremely high purity. Daquan
Group imported the technology from Germany in 2006. Yunyang
County close to Wanzhou has quartz silicon ore reserves of 50
million tons.
