LPC Starts up 400 000 T/A Aromatic Extraction Unit

The aromatic extraction unit of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company
Ltd. (LPC) produced the first batch of benzene, toluene and
xylene in Lanzhou, Gansu province on June 23rd, 2007. It shows
that the 400 000 t/a aromatic extraction unit with a total
investment of RMB161 million has started production in LPC and
becomes the biggest aromatic extraction unit in the western
region of China.
Aromatics are important basic raw materials for the petroleum
and chemical sectors. The supply of benzene in China has a great
gap in recent years and the demand for toluene and xylene also
keeps increasing.
Since the completion of its 700 000 t/a ethylene unit in
November 2006, (CCR2006, No. 34) the output of ethylene in LPC
has rapidly grown. The output of byproduct hydrogenated gasoline
has also constantly increased. The existing aromatic extraction
unit can no longer totally consume hydrogenated gasoline from
the new ethylene unit. The 400 000 t/a aromatic extraction unit
can consume hydrogenated gasoline from the new ethylene unit and
produce benzene, toluene and xylene.
It is released that the new aromatic extraction unit uses the
aromatic extraction technology developed by Beijing Jinweihui
Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd. The overall production
process is at the advanced level in China. Construction on the
project was started on August 18th, 2006 and intermediate
handing over was conducted on May 28th, 2007.
