Shell Builds Lubricants Blending Plant in Zhuhai

On June 22nd, 2007 Shell (China) Limited broke ground a
lubricants blending plant in Zhuhai, Guangdong province of South
China. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed
during the fourth quarter of 2008, ready for commissioning and
commercial operation in 2009.
Shell's newest lubricants blending plant will be located in
the Petrochemical Park of Zhuhai and will be ideally placed to
supply major markets in Southern China. It will produce consumer,
transport, industrial and marine lubricants including engine
oils for both motor cars and trucks. The plant will blend both
Shell and Tongyi branded lubricants, each accounting for around
50% of production.
It is expected that capacity in phase one will be around 200
000 tons a year, gradually increasing to around 400 000 tons a
year.
The lubricants blending plant's scale holds the third place
in the world and the first place in Asia. Before this plant, the
lubricant capacity of Shell in China reached 800 000 t/a,
including 600 000 t/a from all brands of Tongyi.
This lubricants blending plant is Shell's sixth blending
plant in China. On September 22nd, 2006 Shell announced that it
acquired a 75% share in Beijing Tongyi Petroleum Chemical
Company Ltd. and Xianyang Tongyi Petroleum Chemical Company Ltd.
