LANXESS Starts Up New Pigment Plant in Shanghai

By Zhu Liangwei

On April 23rd, 2007 reporter of China National Chemical Information Center attended the opening ceremony held by LANXESS to officially start the operation of its plant for yellow raw pigment production in Jinshan District, Shanghai. The new facility with an annual production capacity of around 20 000 tons will ensure the quality and economic supply of raw materials to the existing blending and milling operations of the LANXESS Business Unit Inorganic Pigments in Shanghai. LANXESS had previously sourced these raw pigments from suppliers.     The Jinshan plant will use iron scrap to manufacture raw materials with improved quality and quality consistency. The production is made under the same rigid environmental standards adopted by LANXESS operations worldwide. LANXESS pigments are non-toxic, physiologically safe, insoluble in water, and do not pose risks to the environment. The new plant belongs to the few iron oxide plants in China which are connected to a public sewage plant.   LANXESS iron oxides are used for the coloration of such things as roofing tiles, paving stones and precast concrete. These pigments have high tinting strength, are light-stable and environmentally friendly. LANXESS is one of the leading producers of inorganic pigments. In the last five years, LANXESS's inorganic pigment business unit has registered average annual sales growth of 15% in China.
